Martin-Jan van Santen
Van Santen (born 1968) studied art at the Constantijn Huygens School of Art in the Netherlands’ city of Kampen. After graduating there in 1992, he chose to live and work in various locations around Europe. Eventually, however, he returned to Kampen where he continues his work today. While his career includes many artistic roles, including animator, draftsman, and director, he prefers to concentrate on painting the nude male.
His distinctive use of light and color are characteristics of Van Santen’s paintings. He often employees high contrasts between light and shadow to describe and highlight the texture and shape of his subjects.
